It’s official, Charles De Ketelaere signs with AC Milan until 2027

Charles De Ketelaere leaves Club Brugge to join AC Milan, in Serie A. The two clubs confirmed the transfer which had been expected for some time on Tuesday evening. The duration of the contract is 5 years and runs until June 30, 2027. The Red Devil will wear number 90.

After several weeks of discussions between the Italian club and Bruges, and while Leeds United had invited themselves into the dance, the two parties reached an agreement estimated at 35 million euros with bonuses, which makes it the most expensive outgoing transfer in Jupiler Pro League history. The previous record was held by La Gantoise who obtained 27 million euros for the transfer of Canadian Jonathan David to Lille.

De Ketelaere will have his first experience abroad, when he has been playing in the Bruges first team since 2019. Indeed, after his training, ‘CDK’ made his debut in the Belgian Cup on September 25, 2019 against the Francs Borains (victory 0-3). He then quickly discovered the Champions League and the Belgian championship.

“Club Brugge will always be my home”

“I want to thank everyone at the Club for all the opportunities I’ve had there and this will always be my home,” CDK said. “Of course, I am very happy with this next step,” he said in a press release on the Club’s website. “As a young player, you have the ambition to be able to play at the top abroad as well.”

The club’s manager, Vincent Mannaert, was also delighted with the transaction: “As a club, we can only be proud that a product of young people goes to the Italian champions. We have seen and helped Charles grow into the player he is today and we wish him every success in his new adventure.”

In total, the striker made 120 appearances for Blauw en Zwart, scoring 25 goals and providing 20 assists. In three seasons, he has become an essential part of the workforce which has won 3 consecutive national titles as well as 2 Belgian cups. Meanwhile, De Ketelaere also became Belgium international on November 11, 2020. He scored 1 goal in 8 caps.

AC Milan now has three Belgians in its squad: flank player Alexis Saelemaekers, who arrived in January 2020, and the two new forwards Divock Origi and Charles De Ketelaere, who arrived this summer.
