Huawei Cloud Enables Operators to Unleash the Benefits of Connectivity

Peng Song speaking at the Carrier Cloud Transformation Summit during Win-Win-Huawei Innovation Week

Huawei Carrier BG Marketing and Sales Solutions President Peng Song on August 3, 2022 spoke about the company’s new plans for carrier cloud transformation at the Carrier Cloud Transformation Summit held as part of of the Win-Win-Huawei Innovation Week.

He explained how Huawei is excited to support these transformations by helping to increase network value, accelerate service innovation, and optimize telecom operations to unlock the benefits of connectivity. The cloud is becoming a crucial part of industrial digital transformation, and is now seen as a key economic driver due to its ability to reshape the economic structure and business landscape of every industry.

The telecommunications industry has already entered a crucial phase of its own cloud transformation, which brings with it many new opportunities and challenges. 15% of carriers are expected to develop and fully implement a comprehensive cloud strategy by the end of 2023, resulting in a telecom cloud market worth hundreds of billions of dollars . To support this expansion and take advantage of the new markets these technologies are creating, operators must prioritize building more efficient and agile ICT infrastructure.

Peng believes that carrier cloud transformation should be driven by communications technology (CT) and carriers should leverage the unique strengths of the telecom industry and cloud transformation to increase the value of their networks and services. He pointed out that there are three areas that operators need to focus on to seize the opportunities that arise.

First of all, in terms of network value, operators need to expand network boundaries with the cloud and improve network value in the B2B market to ensure that these advances benefit more customers. Networks are carriers’ primary assets, and carriers can leverage this advantage to synergistically advance cloud transformation. In China, Huawei is providing edge network and cloud capabilities to enable carriers to provide their enterprise customers with solutions for better productivity, expanding their addressable market by 25%.

Secondly, when it comes to digital innovation, operators need to build cloud platforms for digital service innovation that they can use to launch new services faster. Collaborative cloud platforms that connect telecommunications and digital services will further accelerate innovation and improve their customer acquisition capabilities. In Europe, Huawei has already helped operators migrate development environments, test environments and hundreds of services to the Huawei Cloud Platform. This has enabled some operators to reduce time to market for new services by 75% through the use of an agile development platform and telecom PaaS capabilities.

Thirdly, when it comes to telecom operations, carriers need to use pre-integrated cloud solutions purpose-built for the telecom industry to support the sustainable growth of their core business. The telecommunications cloud transformation requires cloud platforms with a distributed architecture capable of meeting the security and data management requirements of adaptive telecommunications service architectures. A rational cloud transformation timeline is also necessary to ensure a robust migration of services to the cloud. In Asia, Huawei deployed distributed clouds to manage a diverse range of carrier services and features, and used Huawei’s distributed data store to perform data analysis related to different services, improving the success rate. the marketing of 5G packs by 180%.

Peng concluded his speech by saying that in order to achieve cloud transformation and deliver quality services to customers, it is important for operators to establish strategic partnerships with those who deeply understand the telecom industry and know how to leverage the strengths of this sector. By the end of 2021, Huawei had worked intensively with more than 120 operators globally on cloud services. Huawei is committed to investing more in ICT and leveraging its global localized service capabilities to accelerate operators’ cloud transformation and unlock the benefits of connectivity.
